Straight 8 invites anyone anywhere to make a 3 minute film on one cartridge of super 8mm film — without editing or post-production. The first time filmmakers see their film is at its premiere at the likes of Cannes Film and Advertising Festivals.
Started by advertising producer / director Ed Sayers in 1999 in London, straight 8 has grown through word of mouth and the internet. It started with advertising industry people and they still particularly enjoy participating. Will Cummock began making straight 8 films in 2005 and now works for straight 8.
Ed and Will are appearing at Golden Drum courtesy of Kodak and with support from Rushes, to spread the word and lay down the challenge for more to enter straight 8 2012. There is no brief - the parameters are only technical. If you have a film in you, they want to see it.
