Tony Hertz

Owner and Creative Director, Hertz:Radio

Tony Hertz’s beyond-all-reason passion for radio, has now spanned 35 years, 6 continents, and careers as agency Creative Director, Proprietor of his own Radio Creative/Production companies and world-travelling teacher/coach.

His first advertising job, while at University, was as an ad agency messenger in Washington DC.
One evening he was asked to write a 10 second radio spot and shortly thereafter, a half-hearted would-be doctor turned into radio-obsessed copywriter. His last agency was as McCann -Erickson where he spent 14 years as CD in Tokyo, Brussels and Birmingham, winning radio (and other) awards in all 3 places.

Pre-and post-McCann, Tony’s two radio companies, The Radio Operators and Hertz:Radio, amassed shelves of awards including 22 Clios, multiple Gold and Silver ILR Awards, London International & New York Festival statues. He is still the world’s only winner of both D&AD Yellow and Black Pencils for Radio.

Tony is known around the world for his highly-acclaimed radio workshops which have now travelled to 32 countries, most recently Russia and South Africa. He’s served twice on the Cannes Radio Jury, was president of this year’s Clio Radio Jury and judged D&AD Radio awards.

He is no stranger to Golden Drum having served on 2 juries and made several presentations and a masterclass.

Tony Hertz is Anglo/American and speaks both languages fluently, plus a couple of others.
